August cost of living up 0.29% on rising food prices | Bangkok Post: news


(Photo by Nittaya Nattayai)The Consumer price index (CPI) for August stood at 106.64 points, an increase of 0.29% year-on-year, pushed mainly by rising food prices, the Commerce Ministry reported on Thursday. The CPI rose for a fifth straight month in August on a yearly basis but when compared to July, it was 0.04% down. Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 1.88%, but the non-food sector dropped by 0.59% in August. August's annual core inflation, which strips out raw food and energy prices, was 0.79% higher than the same month in 2015. The CPI over the eight month period was down 0.03% on the same period in 2015.
